Annual Clean-up Day (Saturday 23 April)

Post date: 17-Mar-2016 12:45:28

An enormous thank you to everyone who threw themselves into the Clean Up Day on 23 April.

The weather, though changeable, just about stayed dry enough and we had a very fun and productive day.

A lot of sweeping, weeding, gardening and general tidying was carried out in and around the park and the spiky pyracantha plant invading the copper beech hedge was chopped out. The skip supplied by Lambeth was pretty much full by Sunday evening.

We launched into the construction of the planters with great enthusiasm, and luckily a circular saw, thanks to Mark Parsons.

An industrious, efficient little assembly line seem to organically evolve.

In between the conversation and laughter and the tea and cake we managed to create 7 fantastic planters. We placed them on the junction, filled them with compost and a few plants; downed tools and toasted them with a glass of wine as the sun set.

At the moment the planters look great and seem to be very much appreciated. It will be interesting to see how they fare. If you have any spare plants or bulbs feel free to pop them in.

Lambeth supplied the boards, the compost, the screws and the paint; so hopefully if the funding and enthusiasm is there, we could make some more next year.

Thanks once again to all who contributed either on Saturday or at other time.

Another happy Holmewood day spent in community cooperation!

Max Warner, Chair of HNA Committee

PS. We look forward to seeing residents at forthcoming events including the open meeting on 8 June and the Holmewood Summer Social on 9 July.
